For my next hurricane

(and now this is my 3rd) I am going to get a harness (or dig up my old repel one) and tie a line to the roof of our condo developement. Then, when its fairly windy I'll come down a bit off the line and lock into place and swing across in front of someone's window, flailing about and screaming "Aaaaiiiieeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!"

73,290 words, 1680 paragraphs

Fell a little bit behind schedule, but I'm making progress again. This puts me on about page 244 of a "standard" paper back. I'm quite pleased with its progress and even ran about half it past someone for initial impressions and received a most favorable response for what doesn't even amount to a first draft. As long as I don't drop the ball, things should be just peachy.

Now that's an odd combination...

Was playing some online checkers, and someone pm'd me about a game. So while they were waiting, they were chatting on the side (which was fine by me, since my opponent wasn't very good - but then again, I'm the draughts king) and it turns out they are a stripper who is aspiring to be a mortician.

How odd.

Informal AAR 20040912

I went on my first rescue mission today, first for everyone really. The military can teach you a lot about fighting human opponents, but most of us were ill prepared for what happened on the freighter Nancy. The Nancy was a cargo ship, just west off the coast of Africa, some 50 miles into the atlantic when it let out a distress call. Fortunately our deepwater naval base was close enough to react timely.

We touched down aft on the ship, on it's heli pad. Some fool thought it would be a good idea to bring a subersible tank for the extra armored firepower. Too bad it sat on the helipad for all of the fighting, since it was too big to roam around. It did manage to help clear the LZ so we could all get off safely. Fighting was fierce, and those damn creatures can take a lot of punishment. We were even using their own weapons against them, the sonic rifles and cannons, but even with such imense firepower, they would take multiple hits and still fight. Even the new grenades the techs built for us weren't always effective.

The upper deck was the worst, we lost four good soldiers there. Three cut down by some strange, immensely large biped which finally was blown apart after a hail of exposives. Jenson, the other, was cut down by a couple aquatic lizard freaks coming around a corner. I tossed a grenade into their room and managed to avenge his death.

Jacqious blacked out a few times, or so she said while we descended down into the lower decks. I don't know what happened other than that, because she later died of her wounds. Actually, she passed out, and while she was dying, she let the grenade that she was holding slip out of her hands. Fortunately, no one else was caught in the blast.

Markov...well, no one know what happened to him. He went to secure our right flank as we searched one of the levels, and when it was all over, we found what was left of him next to pieces of saucer. I suspect he shot one of those mechanical things and it blew up in his face.

They said we did an excellent job, saved some civvies from death, and recovered numerous "artificats" to help research. Out of ten of us tho, only four of us came back on our own two feet, and somehow I don't feel that's exactly a great.

What a pain in the butt

Just finished moving a ton of files from one server to another. Very annoying.

On an unrelated note, one of my cats has decided to take it upon herself to wander off outside and has yet to return.

More stuff, another post

'Nother cane down in the ole mego notch post. Lost power for a bout a day. Got some good pics while the storm ravaged my house. Wasnt a very impressive storm. In the immortal words of the black knight "I've had worse!"

On an unrelated note, managed to hit a small bit of writer's block. Which sucks. What sucks even more is that I've appearantly lost my finer touches with the opposite sex. 6 years ago I could have gotten a girl to shave her head like that! Now? Can't even bribe em...sigh...

Cutest parrot ever...

I have a parrot, two actually, but the one I am speaking of now is a quaker parrot. Before I start, on a side note, when my wife and I first started looking for a parrot, about 5 years ago, we knew absolutely crap about parrots other than they were birds and people had them as pets. We were even completely amazed that the guy at our local, small business petstore (Pet Bazaar in Casselberry, FL totally r0x0rz) guy picked up their parrot and held it upside down in his hands like a little baby. Anyway, we were shopping around and this other guy at a chain petstore (avoid them like the plague if you can when buying pets) was trying to be the parrot expert. So he takes a quaker parrot out of its cage and its just sitting there, and the fuck tard says "Oh quakers are generally quiet birds and don't talk much." And from our view point, that seemed true enough and we certainly didn't know any better.

So fast forward to the preset. We know have 1 sunconure and 1 quaker. We had at one time 2 parent quakers and 4 babies (3 blue quakers and 1 split). Anyrate, all of those are gone (I digress again) and just the 1 conure and 1 quaker. This 1 quaker is anything BUT quiet (just like all the others). And not in a noisy, screechy sense either. She loves to sing and talk. She'll whistle a few bars of the Indiana Jones theme song when she's alone. So I hear her whistling that just now, and decide to cue it up on my mp3 player. Quaker (and that's her short name, her official name is "Jammies") gets very exicited and does her best to sing along with it. Cutest bird ever :)
